Life Is Funny: I Thought It Was Funny

By MAD21

Well, it was bound to happen eventually. At least in my house. You've heard me talk about how my two young daughters are already good at shooting one-liners at us from movies or TV shows with appropriate and hilariously funny timing.

Last week my youngest and I were on our way to pick up her older sister from school. She had said something that made me laugh, and then as most little ones do, kept repeating the same thing a few more times hoping to get the same response from me. After the third or so time, I said, "Ok, it's not funny anymore. You'll have to think of something else."

Works For Me Wednesday: Who Goes First?

By MAD21

Picture, if you will, two sisters going into rest time. They always get a story before having to turn the lights out and be quiet. All of the things that need to be done before retreating to the bedroom get done. All is calm until... "It's MY turn to pick it out!" "NO! It's MYYY turn!" "NO! My turn!" ..... "MOoooOOOOMM!!"

It only takes so many days of this happening before you have no patience left and realize you need to find a better way to help your kids get along, and learn to take turns and share. (And be happy about it-HAHA!) Something needs to happen both for them, and for you.

Our girls are finally both old enough that they can do a lot of the same things, have a lot of opinions, and almost always want to go first or be the one who gets to choose something. I, like any parent, am always on the look out for fun ways to get things done. And this situation is no different.

Lock Down the Net - Stolen?

By Alan

As a followup article from last year: Lock Down the Net, talking about ways to lock down a home network or computer, we thought this was an interesting development.

There are preliminary news reports that the company that manufactured the Cybersitter software is suing the Chinese government for $2.2 billion in damages in a federal lawsuit. Cybersitter, a family run company, provides Internet filtering software originally intended to prevent inappropriate website access by children in the household.

Life Is Funny: Top 5 Christmas Vacation Quotes

By MAD21

1.  While on our way into the National Zoo, my husband asked our girls, "What's your favorite animal?" Without hesitation, my youngest yells with much enthusiasm and arms in the air, "MEEE!"

2.  It is tradition that we drive around looking at Christmas lights after going to the Christmas Eve services at church. For quite awhile, we were oooing and aaaaahing at the beautiful decorations that people had on their houses. At one point, we drove through an area that didn't have anything to see. Our youngest exclaims, "Wow! Awesome!" My niece who was in the car said, "What? What did you see?" My youngest sweetly says, "Nooothing." (With a smirk on her face, of course.)

Works For Me Wednesday: Christmas Cards

By MAD21

Since our girls were born, I've tried to get Christmas Cards out every year that include something that tells our family and friends what we've been up to during the year. In this stage of our lives, I've found it so hard to keep up with them because we are always so busy. So it's a good way to reconnect.

Something I have always done when we send cards to people, is trace my girls hands in the cards. I think I started doing it because my entire family lives 3000 miles away, and by including their handprints it was a way for them to see my girls grow. I realized after awhile how much I liked including that handprint because it was almost like sending part of my girls with the card. In the same way that we sign our own names.
