Works For Me Wednesday: Blogging Tips
By MAD21
For this week's WFMW, Kristen asked us to share our favorite blogging tips. Even though it's almost been a year, I still feel new to the blogging world. But here are five things I've learned:
1. Care about what you are writing about. If you don't, your readers won't either.
2. Don't try to be something that you are not. If the posts you are writing are seeming to go in a direction that makes you uncomfortable, stop writing and do some editing. There is a difference between learning about something in the process of putting a post together (either about yourself, or about a particular subject), and writing as if you already know about the subject when you do not.
3. Use Twitter or some variety of social media. I've said before that by doing so you will develop awesome friendships who are also good resources for help and inspiration.
4. Be faithful and consistent. Try to find your natural niche, both what to write about, and when to post it. People like to know what to expect from your blog and when they can expect it.
5. Read and comment a lot on other blogs. It encourages the authors of those blogs, and drives traffic to your own.
What are some things that you have learned since you started blogging? I'd love to know!
Every Wednesday, fellow blogger Kristen at We are THAT Family posts clever ideas for getting things done. She calls it, "Works For Me Wednesday" or WFMW. Be sure to go visit her blog to read her post along with links to other blogs who are participating.

Good advice.
Today is my blogiversary. I have learned that the friends I make through blogs and twitter are every bit as real as the friends I make at a book club, or in Church. In some ways, we are more "real" and open in cyber space than in corporal space.
Great list Ginny! The only thing that I could think of to add is: Respond to the comments that are made on your blog within a reasonable amount of time (no more than 1 day).
On a similar note, have you considered using a commenting system like Disqus or Intense Debate so that the comments can be more "conversational"? Just a thought! :)
Good thoughts, Ginny. If you aren't being 'real'... what is the point?
Oh... Happy Blogiversary, Helen. :)
Great list and of course, very practical. :) I think one of the huge ones is consistency, like you said. You may have to force yourself at first, but then you find a groove that works.
I think another tip would be to not be afraid to experiment and try things out- not necessarily out of left field, but we don't have to be so rigid or scared to try new things. For the most part, there's no harm in trying!
Thanks everyone! Love the comments.
Kevin- We should talk. I'm not sure how Disqus, etc. work or what the benefits are.
Jason- Hahaha. Thanks for the tip. Also very... practical :-)
Helen- Yay for anniversaries!!
Fire me an e-mail with any questions that you may have Ginny! I would be glad to help in any way that I can! :)
