Life Is Funny: It's A Secret

By MAD21

Last Wednesday evening as we were saying our last "good-nights" to our girls, my youngest says to me, "Mommy, I can't wait for tomorrow morning." The next day was my birthday and I wondered if she knew and was up to something. The following is how the rest of the conversation went:

Me: "Why are you excited for tomorrow morning?"

Youngest: "Because I have a surprise."

Me: "You have a surprise?"

Youngest: "Yep. For your birthday."

Me: "It's my birthday? Who told you it was my birthday?"

Youngest (with a smirk): "Daaaddy."

Me: "Oh, he did, did he?"

Youngest: "Yep. And I have a surprise... for you."

Me: "Oh, really?"

Youngest: "Yep. And it's hidden. And I won't tell you where it is <pause> in sister's room."

Me: "So you aren't going to tell me where it is, but it's in sister's room?"

Youngest: "Yep. But I won't tell you what it is <pause> it's a card."

Me: "Don't tell me anymore, silly. You said you weren't going to tell me <pause> is it orange? I bet it's orange." (Her favorite color)

Youngest (with a very thoughtful look): "No. Well, but on the bottom...."

Me (interrupting): "No. Don't tell me. I want you to surprise me with the rest."

You'll have to imagine the fun tone in her voice during this conversation. My youngest loves to let you know she has a secret but is usually pretty good about keeping the actual secret. Apparently this is only when she isn't excited to tell you what that secret is. You can't help but love that child. She makes me laugh everyday.

My friend and fellow blogger Wendy at Weight..What? has a fun carnival at her blog called "Life is Funny." Every Monday we talk about something in life that we find funny. Be sure to go visit her blog to read her post along with links to other blogs who are participating.

I love it when one of my children does the same exact thing...such joy.

My oldest is awful at keeping secrets! He always blurts out the surprise because he's so excited. :) haha!

Neither my daughter or husband can keep a secret when it comes to presents. No surprises around this house!
