To Salt or Not to Salt...

by MAD21

There is a lot of controversy over the amount of salt people should be eating every day. This amount will definitely depend on any medical issues you may have. But the health industry will have you believe you need to stay away from it as much as possible. However, if you do some research online in respectable medical journals, you will find that people who stay away from salt can begin to have other health issues, for example chronic fatigue, among other things. My brother and sister-in-law are PhD cardiologists. They along with my cardiologist agree that the average daily salt intake for a normally healthy person should be around 3500-4000mg a day. That can be a little high for some people. Find the amount that you are comfortable with. But don’t cut salt out too much like some will suggest, especially if you are an active person. One other note on salt is this, try to use sea salt or kosher salt whenever possible. The iodine in table salt can cause constipation, among other things. And some studies have shown it to be better for us than regular table salt.
