Fingerprint Friday: Courage and Loose Teeth

My oldest has had a loose tooth for what seems like forever. It's been a month or two. This is her first loose tooth. Well, technically it's her second, but the first one isn't even close to coming out yet.
She's been working for weeks wiggling and wiggling trying to get this tooth to come out. So excited, though I'm not sure exactly what she was excited for. Some of it, I think, is that all of her classmates have lost at least one tooth, some are on their third or fourth.
Last night when I went in to say good-night to her, I asked her how the tooth was coming along. She said it was really loose. I wiggled it to see if it was any looser. It seemed to be, so I told her to come into the kitchen with me so I could see it in the light better. When I tugged on it, it seemed to come very loose, enough that I knew it really needed to come out. I immediately started to pray in my head that this thing would finally come out.
Funny thing about my oldest is that she still has a problem with letting fear take over her emotions... like before she even knows if there is something to be afraid of. So when she knew we were going to pull it out, she started freaking out a little. I talked to her a lot, held her a lot, breathed with her a lot, trying to get her to understand that there was nothing to be afraid of and she needed to basically get a hold of herself.
With some help from Daddy, and after lots of hugs and a few tugs, the tooth FINALLY came out. My oldest was crying a little, but there was also the sound of excitement. We told her this was what being brave was all about... be scared to do something, but doing it anyway.
Seems like just yesterday she was suffering through the teeth growing in. Now my baby has lost her first tooth. She could have totally freaked out and not let us pull it out, but she trusted us to help her through it. She was afraid of the blood and the pain, but she did what she needed to do. I am so proud of her.
I thank God that he gave my daughter the courage to do something even though she was afraid. A not so small fingerprint to let us know he was right there with us, helping our daughter with the first of many loose teeth.

Definitely reminds me of how God deals with us. We are afraid of the blood and pain, but if we trust Him, He will always help us through. Thanks Ginny.
Wonderful brave child! We had so many issues with our kids getting their teeth in and then out...seems like yesterday, but they are all big kids (ok, young adults!) now with wonderful smiles (not perfect!) but that's what being brave with your kids is all about. Teaching them that God is with them through the good and the bad moments of life is something they will always remember! Smile today. :)
